MIR Flat Toray Synthetic Brush Ref. 132 — soft fibre for watercolour and fine techniques
Flat brush with Toray synthetic fibre, manufactured by Pinturas MIR | Jaurena S.A. Toray fibre is synthetic and flexible, designed to imitate fine natural hair. It differs from Teijin, the other synthetic fibre in the MIR range (firmer, designed for dense paste): Toray is the choice when what's needed is softness of stroke, not body.
What is it used for?
- Watercolour and fine glazes, where the flexibility of the Toray fibre eases blending
- Applying tempera and gouache
- Acrylic paint, use declared by the manufacturer MIR
Why choose the Toray Ref. 132?
- Toray synthetic fibre, flexible, designed to imitate fine natural hair
- Cupronickel ferrule, anti-corrosive — construction typical of the MIR synthetic range
- Factory hair and ferrule protector, so the brush arrives and stays in shape without losing it
- Compared to the Teijin (Ref. 401), a firmer fibre for acrylic and thick oil paint, the Toray is the soft fibre of the range — according to the sector's usual classification, not an in-house test
Presentation and storage
- Presentation: flat brush, sold individually, in sizes from No. 00 to No. 24 (15 sizes)
- Keep the factory protector on when not in use: it keeps the fibre's shape
- Shelf life: reusable, no expiry date
Which solvents it works with
- Toray polyester fiber withstands water, ethanol and white spirit.
Frequently asked questions
Which size should I choose, from 00 to 24?
Go by the size of the detail, not the size of the piece. Spot retouching and fine lines: 00-6. Medium work and glazes: 8-16. Broader fields within the piece: 18-24. If what you need is to varnish a large surface, this isn't it — that's the Ref. 700 flat brush.
Is Toray the same as Teijin?
No. Toray is softer and more flexible: watercolour, glazes and fine techniques. Teijin (Ref. 401) is firmer, for moving dense paste in acrylic or thick oil. Choose by the density of what you're applying, not by the technique.
Which solvents does it withstand?
Toray polyester fiber withstands water, ethanol and white spirit.
Does it come with a hair protector?
Yes, a factory plastic protector for the hair and ferrule, to preserve its shape during transport and storage.
