This pair of cleaning brushes brings together the two stiffnesses used in a dry cleaning treatment: one soft bristle and one hard bristle. The stiffness is encoded in the reference: each one is identified by its number and can be reordered exactly the same. A treatment performed with brush 86452521 can be replicated by citing that reference; one done with "the hard one I bought at the supermarket" cannot.
Applications
- Dry mechanical cleaning on metal, mosaic, ceramic, stone, and archaeological objects
- Removal of dust and loose particulate matter
- Classroom and practical work where treatment needs to be reproducible
- Intervention documentation: the tool used is identified by reference
Features
-
Stiffness encoded in the reference: soft
86452531, hard86452521. Kremer fixes it in the reference itself, so you know exactly which one you are ordering. - Natural hog bristles, light in the soft and dark in the hard
- Sold as a pair: the two stiffnesses required for a complete treatment
Where NOT to use it
The documented use of a bristle brush in conservation is on metal, mosaic, ceramic, stone, and archaeological objects. It is not used on the surface of a painting: the Canadian Conservation Institute explicitly advises against it. Nor on paper, where hard bristles scratch. If your intervention is on polychromy, this is not the tool.
What it offers
The stiffness encoded in the reference, the declared bristle, and an item you can reorder identically. If you document your interventions or teach, that's exactly what you need.
