Giusto Manetti 23-karat gold leaf, 80 × 80 mm booklet
23-karat (kt) gold leaf in the “Extra” yellow shade by Giusto Manetti Battiloro, beaten in Campi Bisenzio (Florence). It comes in two leaf formats for two techniques. The loose leaf is used for water gilding over bole on carved surfaces and for mordant gilding on smooth surfaces, and the transfer leaf, pressed onto tissue paper, for mordant gilding on smooth surfaces.
What is it used for?
- Water gilding over bole on carved surfaces, with the loose leaf. To prepare the surface, you have the Bólex by Divolo Firenze, a bole with rabbit skin glue already incorporated.
- Mordant gilding on smooth surfaces, with loose or transfer leaf.
- Like Giusto Manetti gold leaf in general, in the restoration of gilding on frames, sculptures, paintings, metal objects and antique books.
Why choose Giusto Manetti 23 kt gold leaf?
- Beaten in Campi Bisenzio, near Florence, by Giusto Manetti Battiloro. The gold is melted, rolled and beaten, and each leaf is cut by hand and placed in the booklet between sheets of tissue paper.
- High-karat gold, with a low risk of oxidation.
- Responsibly sourced gold, conflict-free and traceable throughout the supply chain.
- Each format with its technique. The loose leaf for water gilding over bole on carvings, and the transfer leaf, bonded to the tissue paper by pressure and without adhesive, for mordant gilding on smooth surfaces.
Presentation and storage
- Case with one booklet of 5 or 25 leaves of 80 × 80 mm, in loose or transfer leaf.
- Leaf weight, 13 g per 1000 leaves.
- In the transfer booklet, the tissue paper protrudes so that each leaf can be picked up with its backing.
- Once applied, the gilding should be kept away from humidity, direct sunlight and temperature changes, and cleaned with a soft brush or dry microfibre, without abrasives or alcohol.
- Sold in boxes of 30 booklets of the format you choose, on pre-order, with delivery within a maximum of 30 days.

Frequently asked questions
Loose or transfer leaf?
It depends on the technique. The loose leaf is worked by water gilding over bole on carved surfaces, and also by mordant gilding on smooth surfaces. The transfer leaf is always applied by mordant gilding, on smooth surfaces.
