Liquitex Soft Body Cadmium-Free Yellow Light — professional low-viscosity acrylic in a 946 ml bottle

Professional low-viscosity, water-based acrylic paint in Cadmium-Free Yellow Light (No. 889). It is a luminous, opaque yellow with great tinting strength, formulated to reproduce the luminosity, covering power and intensity of the traditional cadmium colour without containing cadmium. It has lightfastness I (excellent) on the ASTM scale (American Society for Testing and Materials). It is not the equivalent of a diluted high-viscosity paint: the Soft Body range has a pigment load equivalent to that of the Heavy Body range from the same brand.

What is it used for?

The Soft Body range is suited to:

  • Covering large surfaces and murals.
  • Fine detail, hard edges, blends and gradients.
  • Glazes and layering: it dries quickly and forms a flexible film, which allows layers to be built up and masked.
  • Pouring, screen printing and airbrushing.
  • Collage, mixed media, painting on fabric and watercolour techniques.

The Soft Body range is applied on stretched canvas, paper and card, photographic paper, wood, fabric, glass, plaster and brick, clay and ceramic.

Why choose Liquitex Soft Body Cadmium-Free Yellow Light?

  • Lightfastness I (excellent) on the ASTM scale.
  • Opaque, cadmium-free light yellow, with great tinting strength.
  • Pigment load equivalent to that of the Heavy Body range from the same brand, in a low-viscosity paint (Soft Body range data).
  • Satin finish that retains a subtle brush mark, and a flexible, fast-drying film (Soft Body range data).
  • Series 3 of the range. Made in France.

Presentation and storage

  • Presentation: 946 ml (32 US fl oz) plastic bottle with integrated nozzle. The bottles in the range have a screw cap, a conical tip with cutting marks to adjust the thickness of the line and a wide neck without shoulders, so all the paint can be used.
  • Store in the original container, tightly closed, in a cool, ventilated place. Avoid direct sunlight and extreme temperatures, both high and low. Keep away from strong acids and bases.
  • Shelf life: 5 to 7 years for the brand’s acrylics, stored at room temperature, tightly closed and uncontaminated.
  • Contains reaction mass of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (3:1), 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one and 2-methyl-1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one. May produce an allergic reaction.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and skin. Do not eat, drink or smoke while working. Wash hands with soap and water when finished. Do not pour into drains.

The limits, stated plainly

  • For impasto, a different consistency. It is a low-viscosity paint; for impasto, a high-viscosity paint is recommended.
  • To change fluidity or transparency, use medium, not water. It is recommended to adjust with acrylic mediums and keep water for cleaning tools.

Frequently asked questions

Does it cover like a cadmium yellow?
It is a luminous, opaque yellow with great tinting strength, formulated to reproduce the luminosity, covering power and intensity of the traditional cadmium colour without containing cadmium.
What is its lightfastness?
Lightfastness I (excellent) on the ASTM scale (American Society for Testing and Materials).
What is the difference between Soft Body and Heavy Body?
Viscosity. The Soft Body range is low-viscosity and has a pigment load equivalent to that of the Heavy Body range. It is not the same as a thick paint that has been thinned: thinning a high-viscosity paint with water or mediums reduces its concentration and weakens the colour.
What finish does it give?
The Soft Body range gives a satin finish that retains a subtle brush mark.
What supports can it be applied to?
The Soft Body range is applied on stretched canvas, paper and card, photographic paper, wood, fabric, glass, plaster and brick, clay and ceramic.
Is it suitable for airbrushing, screen printing and pouring?
Yes: the Soft Body range is suited to all three techniques. To change the fluidity, it is recommended to adjust with acrylic mediums and keep water for cleaning tools.
How long does it keep?
The brand’s acrylics have a shelf life of 5 to 7 years when stored at room temperature, tightly closed and uncontaminated.
Does the 946 ml bottle have a nozzle?
Yes, it has an integrated nozzle. The bottles in the range have a screw cap and a conical tip with cutting marks to adjust the thickness of the line.
