Liquitex Professional Heavy Body — Set of 24 Tubes of 22 ml of High-Viscosity Artist's Acrylic

Set of 24 colours of Liquitex Heavy Body professional artist's acrylic, in 22 ml tubes. Heavy Body is the highest-viscosity range of Liquitex professional acrylics: a dense, satin-finish paint that holds the brushstroke and the palette-knife mark. The label on each tube shows the series and opacity of the colour; the colour table brings together the data for all 24.

What is it used for?

  • Impasto and textures with brush or palette knife: the Heavy Body range is designed for working with body.
  • Blending of colour.
  • Expanding the palette with 24 colours from the range, from Hansa Yellow Light to the two iridescents.
  • Supports the Heavy Body range is designed for: stretched canvas, paper and card, photographic paper, wood, fabric, glass, plaster and brick, clay and ceramic.

Why choose the Liquitex Heavy Body set of 24 tubes?

  • The highest viscosity of Liquitex professional acrylics: the Heavy Body range holds the clean brushstroke and the palette-knife mark, with a long open time.
  • 22 of the 24 colours with ASTM I or ASTM II lightfastness: 18 colours ASTM I (excellent) and 4 ASTM II (very good). ASTM is the lightfastness scale of the American Society for Testing and Materials.
  • Series and opacity, shown on each tube. The set brings together 14 opaque, 5 semi-opaque and 5 transparent colours.
  • High pigment concentration, typical of the Heavy Body range, with minimal colour shift between wet and dry.
  • Flexible, durable dry film: like the whole Heavy Body range, it does not yellow, resists ultraviolet (UV) rays and is water-resistant once dry.

The 24 colours in the set

The pigment codes are those of the Colour Index: PY = yellow, PO = orange, PR = red, PV = violet, PB = blue, PG = green, PBr = brown, PBk = black, PW = white. For lightfastness, ASTM I = excellent and ASTM II = very good.

How to work with it

  • 22 of the 24 colours have an ASTM lightfastness classification: 18 are ASTM I (excellent) and 4 are ASTM II (very good): Hansa Yellow Light, Brilliant Purple, Dioxazine Purple and Prussian Blue Hue.
  • It can be thinned with water. For fluid work, the right approach is to start from a paint of a more fluid consistency.

Frequently asked questions

Which colours does the set include?
Twenty-four: Hansa Yellow Light, Azo Yellow Medium, Cadmium-Free Yellow Medium, Cadmium-Free Orange, Naphthol Red Light, Quinacridone Crimson, Light Pink, Brilliant Purple, Dioxazine Purple, Ultramarine Blue (Red Shade), Prussian Blue Hue, Cerulean Blue Hue, Light Blue Permanent, Phthalocyanine Green (Blue Shade), Vivid Lime Green, Oxide Yellow, Raw Sienna, Burnt Umber, Unbleached Titanium, Titanium White, Payne's Grey, Ivory Black, Iridescent Bright Silver and Iridescent Bright Gold.
What size are the tubes?
22 ml (0.74 US fl oz) each.
Do all the colours have the same lightfastness?
No. 18 colours are ASTM I (excellent) and 4 are ASTM II (very good): Hansa Yellow Light, Brilliant Purple, Dioxazine Purple and Prussian Blue Hue. The two iridescents, silver and gold, have no ASTM classification. ASTM is the scale of the American Society for Testing and Materials.
Which colours are opaque and which are transparent?
14 are opaque, 5 semi-opaque and 5 transparent. The transparent ones are Hansa Yellow Light, Quinacridone Crimson, Dioxazine Purple, Ultramarine Blue (Red Shade) and Phthalocyanine Green (Blue Shade). Each tube shows it with a symbol.
What does the series of each colour mean?
Series group colours by pigment cost: series 1 holds the lowest-cost pigments. In this set there are 14 series 1 colours, 7 series 2, 2 series 3 and 1 series 4.
What is the difference between Heavy Body and Soft Body?
The consistency. Heavy Body has a higher viscosity and gives a different texture: it holds the brushstroke and the palette-knife mark.
Can I dilute it with water so that it flows?
You can, but it may lose colour intensity. For fluid work, it is recommended to start from a paint of a more fluid consistency.
What tools can it be worked with?
Besides brushes, the Heavy Body range can be worked with palette knives, combs and scrapers.
