Liquitex Professional Heavy Body · Classic Set of 12 Tubes of 59 ml — High-Viscosity Artist's Acrylic

Twelve 59 ml tubes of professional artist's acrylic of high viscosity and satin finish. The set brings together 11 colours from the Heavy Body colour chart, with Titanium White in duplicate: eight single-pigment colours and three mixed colours, each with its pigment, opacity and lightfastness shown on the tube. Like the whole Heavy Body range, it has a dense consistency that holds the brushstroke and the palette-knife mark.

The colours in the set

Pigment: Colour Index code, the international index of colorants (PY = yellow, PR = red, PV = violet, PB = blue, PG = green, PBk = black, PW = white). ASTM: lightfastness scale of the American Society for Testing and Materials; I = excellent, II = very good.

What is it used for?

  • Impasto and textures with brush or palette knife: the Heavy Body range is designed for working with body.
  • Alla prima painting and blending.
  • Collage and mixed media.
  • Work with palette knives, combs and scrapers, as well as with brushes: these are the tools the Heavy Body range is worked with.
  • Supports the Heavy Body range is designed for: stretched canvas, paper and card, photographic paper, wood, fabric, glass, plaster and brick, clay and ceramic.

Why choose the Liquitex Heavy Body Classic Set?

  • Pigment, opacity and lightfastness shown colour by colour: eight of the eleven colours contain a single pigment; five are opaque, one semi-opaque and five transparent, with Titanium White in duplicate.
  • ASTM I lightfastness in nine colours and ASTM II in two (Hansa Yellow Light and Dioxazine Purple), on the American Society for Testing and Materials scale (I = excellent, II = very good).
  • The highest viscosity of Liquitex paints: the Heavy Body range holds the clean brushstroke and the palette-knife mark, with a long open time.
  • High pigment concentration, typical of the Heavy Body range, with minimal colour shift between wet and dry.
  • Flexible, durable dry film: like the whole Heavy Body range, it does not yellow, resists ultraviolet (UV) rays and is water-resistant once dry.

Presentation and storage

  • Presentation: box with 12 tubes of 59 ml. Eleven colours; Titanium White in two tubes.
  • Each tube is printed with the colour name, pigment, series, opacity and lightfastness.
  • Storage: in the original container, tightly closed, in a cool, well-ventilated place, out of direct sunlight and away from extremely high or low temperatures.
  • Shelf life of Liquitex acrylics: 5 to 7 years, tightly closed, at room temperature and uncontaminated.
  • Contains, depending on the colour: 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one, 2-methyl-1,2-benzothiazol-3(2H)-one, 2-methylisothiazol-3(2H)-one and reaction mass of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (3:1). Hansa Yellow Light also contains maleated rosin. May produce an allergic reaction.
  • Titanium White, Emerald Green and Brilliant Blue: Warning! Hazardous respirable droplets may be formed when sprayed. Do not breathe spray or mist.
  • Keep out of reach of children.
  • During use: avoid contact with skin and eyes and wash your hands when finished. Do not pour leftovers down drains.

Liquitex, from the Colart group. Made in France.

How to work with it

  • It can be thinned with water. For fluid work, the right approach is to start from a paint of a more fluid consistency.
  • Five of the eleven colours are transparent (Hansa Yellow Light, Quinacridone Magenta, Dioxazine Purple, Phthalocyanine Blue and Phthalocyanine Green): they work by glazing, letting the layer beneath show through. For coverage, the set includes five opaque colours, Titanium White among them.

Frequently asked questions

Which colours does the set include?
Eleven: Hansa Yellow Light, Naphthol Red Light, Quinacridone Magenta, Dioxazine Purple, Phthalocyanine Blue (Green Shade), Brilliant Blue, Emerald Green, Phthalocyanine Green (Blue Shade), Bronze Yellow, Ivory Black and Titanium White. The white comes in two tubes, making up the twelve.
Which pigment does each colour contain?
Eight contain a single pigment: Hansa Yellow Light (PY3), Naphthol Red Light (PR9), Quinacridone Magenta (PR122), Dioxazine Purple (PV23), Phthalocyanine Blue (PB15), Phthalocyanine Green (PG7), Ivory Black (PBk9) and Titanium White (PW6). Three are pigment mixtures: Brilliant Blue, Emerald Green and Bronze Yellow.
How lightfast are they?
Nine colours are ASTM I (excellent) and two, Hansa Yellow Light and Dioxazine Purple, are ASTM II (very good), on the American Society for Testing and Materials scale. For the Heavy Body range, a permanence of at least 50 years under gallery conditions is stated.
Which colours are opaque and which are transparent?
Opaque: Titanium White, Ivory Black, Bronze Yellow, Emerald Green and Brilliant Blue. Semi-opaque: Naphthol Red Light. Transparent: Hansa Yellow Light, Quinacridone Magenta, Dioxazine Purple, Phthalocyanine Blue and Phthalocyanine Green.
What is the difference between Heavy Body and Soft Body?
The consistency. Heavy Body has a higher viscosity and gives a different texture: it holds the brushstroke and the palette-knife mark. It is not recommended to turn one into the other with water or gel, because it can affect the intensity of the colour: choose the consistency from the start.
Can it be diluted with water?
It can, but it may lose colour intensity. For fluid work, it is recommended to start from a paint of a more fluid consistency.
Which supports can it be used on?
The Heavy Body range is designed for stretched canvas, paper and card, photographic paper, wood, fabric, glass, plaster and brick, clay and ceramic.
Can they be mixed with other Liquitex acrylics?
Yes: Liquitex paints are water-based and can be mixed with one another.
