Liquitex Matte Gel Medium — 3.78 L Tub of Thick, Matte Acrylic Gel Medium, Translucent When Dry

Thick acrylic gel medium that is mixed with acrylic colour to give it body, slow its drying and reduce its gloss: once dry it leaves a matte, translucent finish. Supplied in a 3.78 L tub.

What is it used for?

  • Thickening acrylic colour and keeping a thick consistency, also in impasto.
  • Slowing drying and gaining working time.
  • Reducing gloss: matte, translucent finish once dry.
  • Extending colour: it increases the volume of paint and, the more medium is added, the more transparent the colour becomes.
  • Collage, including heavier objects.
  • A tailor-made satin finish, by combining it with a gloss gel medium.

Why choose Liquitex Matte Gel Medium?

  • Thick consistency: gives body to acrylic colour and keeps the brushstroke.
  • Matte, translucent finish once dry.
  • Free proportion: it is mixed with acrylic colour in whatever amount you want.
  • Liquitex gel mediums and pastes increase the thickness and volume of the paint while maintaining the stability of the acrylic formula.
  • Made in France.

How to work with it

  • For acrylic colours and mediums.
  • It takes up to 25% water, preferably distilled.
  • It adds transparency to the colour: the more medium, the more transparent.
  • Drying time goes with thickness: the thicker the layer, the longer it takes.
  • When wet it is semi-opaque. For the most transparent finish, use thin or medium layers: in a very thick layer it may dry semi-opaque.

Frequently asked questions

How much medium can be added to the colour?
As much as you want. The more medium, the more transparency.
Can it be diluted with water?
Yes, up to 25%; preferably with distilled water.
