Laponite® RD - Thickener for cleaning gels (Kremer)

Laponite® RD is a synthetic powdered silicate that acts as a thickener and rheological modifier in water. In conservation-restoration, it is used to prepare cleaning gels and poultices that retain solutions on the surface and allow for controlled action. Original Kremer Pigmente product (manufactured by BYK Additives).

Why choose Laponite RD?

• A gel that stays where you put it: it thickens water into a clear, thixotropic gel that holds the solution on vertical surfaces, in cavities or on hanging works. It is applied over an interleaving barrier —Japanese paper or Reemay— that prevents direct contact between the gel and the original.
• Control of water supply: gradual cleaning on sensitive surfaces.
