The Amphora

A small dark stoneware amphora, with two handmade handles.

Stoneware is not a colour: it is a clay fired at a very high temperature (over 1,200 °C) until it becomes hard and dense like stone. Tough and waterproof.

A piece that looks to the past without copying it. Here the stoneware is fired to an ashen tone that reveals the grain of the earth and the trace of the hands.

The two handles, shaped by hand, deliberately break the symmetry: no amphora has to be perfect to be beautiful. It is born to hold very little —a dry stem, a little light— and a great deal of presence.
