Hollytex Lascaux — Non-woven polyester fabric for paper and canvas artwork restoration

Lascaux Hollytex is a spun-bonded polyester non-woven fabric, a benchmark in the conservation and restoration of cultural property. Inert, solvent-resistant, and dimensionally stable, it is the support material used to work on paper or graphic artwork with complete safety. Its structure of compacted continuous polyester fibers gives it tear resistance far superior to any paper of equivalent weight, without adding stiffness or reacting to changes in humidity or temperature. The edges do not fray, the material does not migrate to the artwork, and it can be cleaned or reused without degradation.

Applications

• Support for washing paper and graphic artwork: stable base during aqueous treatments; allows handling fragile artworks without risk of deformation or breakage and facilitates controlled transfer in and out of the washing bath.
• Separator between blotting paper: placed between the wet artwork and the blotter, it prevents blotter fibers from adhering to the surface during drying, achieving clean and controlled drying, without marks or transfers.
• Interleave in doubling and reinforcements: intermediate layer in paper and artwork doubling processes on paper, providing stability without altering the properties of the original support.
• Conservation of canvas paintings: localized consolidation of edges, reinforcement of tension margins, and local applications where mechanical resistance with minimal thickness is needed.

Compatibility

Compatible with BEVA 371 film (heat reversible), Paraloid B-72 in acetone, and Lascaux 498 HV. Not suitable for aqueous adhesives applied directly to Hollytex without an intermediate layer — polyester does not absorb water.
