Lascaux Hollytex is a reference spun-bonded polyester non-woven fabric in the conservation and restoration of cultural heritage. Inert, solvent-resistant, and dimensionally stable, it is the support material used by museum and institutional restoration departments when they need to work on paper or graphic art with complete safety.
Why professionals use it
Its structure of compacted continuous polyester fibers gives it a tear resistance far superior to any paper of equivalent grammage, without adding stiffness or reacting to changes in humidity or temperature. The edges do not fray. The material does not migrate to the artwork. And it can be cleaned or reused without degrading.
Uses in restoration
Support for washing paper and graphic art
Hollytex acts as a stable base during aqueous treatments. It allows fragile works to be handled without risk of deformation or breakage, and facilitates controlled transfer in and out of the washing bath.
Separator between blotting paper
Placed between the wet artwork and the blotting paper, it prevents the blotting paper fibers from adhering to the surface during drying. Result: clean and controlled drying, without marks or transfers.
Interleave in folds and reinforcements
It is used as an intermediate layer in paper folding and paper-based artwork processes, providing stability without altering the properties of the original support.
Conservation of painting on canvas
Also used in interventions on textile supports: localized consolidation of edges, reinforcement of tensioning margins, and local applications where mechanical resistance with minimum thickness is needed.
Compatibility
Compatible with BEVA 371 film (heat reversible), Paraloid B-72 in acetone, and Lascaux 498HV. Not suitable for aqueous adhesives applied directly to Hollytex without an intermediate layer — polyester does not absorb water.
