EVA ART by CTS — ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) in aqueous dispersion: adhesive for paper and fixative for paint layers

Aqueous dispersion of an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer, free of plasticisers and coalescing agents, according to CTS. CTS indicates it for conservative restoration: as an adhesive for paper documents, as a consolidant and fixative for paint layers and as a binder for pigments. It is not a white glue of polyvinyl acetate (PVA). According to CTS, the ethylene proportion of the copolymer is calculated so that it forms a film at low temperature and gives a tough, low-tack film.

What is it used for?

  • Bonding paper documents in restoration
  • Consolidation and fixing of paint layers
  • Binder for natural and synthetic pigments
  • Binder for glazes and whitewashes

Why choose EVA ART?

  • Free of plasticisers and coalescing agents, according to CTS
  • Flexible film: elongation at break of 750 % and breaking load of 7 N/mm² in the tensile test according to the ISO 527 (international) and UNI 8422 (Italian) standards, according to CTS's technical data sheet
  • Forms a film from 3 °C (minimum film-forming temperature) and has a glass transition temperature of 14 °C
  • According to CTS, high resistance to yellowing and to ultraviolet (UV) rays, good transparency and low tack

Presentation and storage

  • Presentation: 250 g, packed by Innovart from CTS's 5 kg container, or the original 1 kg container
  • Milky white liquid, with a dry residue of 50 % and a viscosity of 1,500-2,500 mPa·s at 20 °C
  • Keep it tightly closed, between 5 and 25 °C: it does not withstand frost and may coagulate below 5 °C
  • Product intended exclusively for professional use, according to the manufacturer
  • Manufacturer's reference: CTS R0100146 (1 kg) and R0100147 (5 kg)

Safety information

  • Not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification and labelling (CLP), but its label carries these supplementary European Union hazard statements (EUH):
  • EUH208: Contains 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one; 1,2-benzisothiazolin-3-one. May produce an allergic reaction.
  • EUH208: Contains reaction mass of 5-chloro-2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one and 2-methyl-2H-isothiazol-3-one (3:1). May produce an allergic reaction.
  • EUH210: Safety data sheet available on request.

For original paper

  • For joins in original paper that must be removable with water, wheat starch is preferable.

Frequently asked questions

Is it a white glue (PVA)?
No. It is an ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA) copolymer in aqueous dispersion, free of plasticisers and coalescing agents. White glue is a polyvinyl acetate (PVA).
What does CTS indicate it for?
As an adhesive for paper documents, as a consolidant and fixative for paint layers, and as a binder for pigments, glazes and whitewashes.
At what temperature does it form a film?
According to CTS, from 3 °C: this is its minimum film-forming temperature.
How should it be stored?
Tightly closed, between 5 and 25 °C. It does not withstand frost: below 5 °C it may coagulate.
