Lascaux Gouache — acrylic-modified tempera with great covering power

Lascaux Gouache is a highly concentrated acrylic-modified tempera (gouache): pure lightfast pigments and a modified acrylic binder on a natural basis, in 31 colours, including gold and silver. It dries to an elastic, velvety matt, water-soluble film, and it can be painted over without the fresh layer dissolving the previous one. Compared with the transparent watercolour Lascaux Aquacryl™, Gouache has great covering power: you choose one or the other according to the coverage the work calls for.

What is it used for?

Art and design, on absorbent supports such as paper, cardboard or canvas.
Opaque finish or glazes: applied undiluted, it covers; diluted with water, it gives glazes in any desired shade.
Art education and art therapy.
Creative painting courses.
Screen printing, according to the manufacturer.

Why choose Lascaux Gouache?

Lightfastness stated colour by colour: according to the manufacturer’s colour chart, excellent in 21 of the 31 colours and very good in 10 (301, 302, 303, 304, 305, 306, 307, 308, 318 and 319). The chart identifies the pigments of each colour by the Colour Index (CI), the international nomenclature for pigments.
Lightfast and age-resistant, non-yellowing, according to the manufacturer.
High concentration: it retains its intensity even when diluted 1:1 or more, and lightens very little on drying.
It can be painted over once dry without dissolving the dry layer.
Each Lascaux gouache, its own consistency: Lascaux Gouache has a thick, smooth consistency; Resonance® Gouache has a gel-like consistency, suitable for finger painting, and contains sage oil.

How to work with it

Diluted with water: its consistency is thick and smooth, and diluting it with water is recommended. Undiluted, it gives an opaque finish; diluted with water, glazes.

Does it need to be diluted?

Diluting it with water is recommended: its consistency is thick and smooth. Applied undiluted, it gives an opaque finish; diluted with water, glazes. It is a highly concentrated paint and retains its intensity even when diluted 1:1 or more.

Once dry, does it redissolve with water?

Partially and with a delay, according to the manufacturer. And a dry layer can be painted over without the fresh layer dissolving it.

Which supports is it used on?

How lightfast is each colour?

What can it be mixed with?

All Lascaux Gouache hues can be intermixed. With acrylic paint, the manufacturer recommends, in general, not mixing it.

Can it be applied by airbrush?

The manufacturer states that all its colour ranges are suitable for airbrushing, with a nozzle of 0.15 to 0.5 mm.

What safety information does it carry?

Under the CLP Regulation — Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 of the European Community (EC) on classification, labelling and packaging — the mixture is not classified as hazardous: it carries no pictogram and no signal word. It carries the supplemental label statement EUH208 because it contains 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one, which may produce an allergic reaction.

Safety. Mixture not classified as hazardous under Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008 on classification, labelling and packaging (CLP). Contains 1,2-benzisothiazol-3(2H)-one. May produce an allergic reaction (EUH208). Wearing safety goggles is recommended if there is a risk of splashing. In case of skin contact, wash with soap and water, without solvents.
