Paraloid® B-72 — The world's leading acrylic consolidant

Paraloid B-72 is a pure acrylic resin based on ethyl methacrylate, an international benchmark in conservation-restoration since the 1970s. Transparent granules, high stability, and total reversibility.

What is it used for?

  • Consolidation of paint layer and ground layer

Frequently asked questions

In which solvent is it diluted and at what concentration?
In acetone, ketones, esters or aromatic hydrocarbons. The working concentration varies depending on the porosity of the substrate and the use: typically low concentrations (10-20% w/v) for consolidation, and higher (up to 40-50%) for retouching varnish. Adjust according to your case and professional judgment.
Is it the same as B-44 or B-67?
No. Each variant has different Tg and solubility, with specific uses. B-72 is the general-purpose reference in consolidation.
Can it be used as a final varnish?
When diluted, yes, although its most cited use is as a consolidant. For final varnish, many restorers prefer Regalrez 1094, which has a lower tendency to crack.
Does it yellow over time?
Minimally compared to natural resins like dammar, but like all resins, it is not eternal — periodic review is recommended for exposed works.
Is it toxic?
Not in dry granule form. In solution, work with ventilation and gloves due to the solvent, not the resin itself.
How much does 1 kg yield?
It depends on the working dilution; for consolidation at 10-15% in acetone, 1 kg yields several liters of solution.
