Cyclododecane — Volatile temporary consolidant (Kremer)

Cyclododecane is a volatile waxy material that sublimes at room temperature, and the time depends on thickness, temperature, ventilation and the porosity of the support: 10 °C more roughly halves it, and applied molten it takes two to three times longer than in solution. In conservation-restoration, it is used as a consolidant and temporary masking agent to protect sensitive surfaces during aqueous treatments, cleaning, or transport. Water-repellent.
