Lascaux Oz Clip® – Professional Hanging and Transport System for Works of Art

The Lascaux Oz Clip® is a hanging and bracing fitting for framed artwork, permanently attached to the frame or stretcher, with a steel pivot pin. Lascaux states over 1,000,000 units sold. Available in two versions: with a stainless steel loop, for installation and permanent hanging, and without a loop, which the manufacturer intends for transport only and for security fastening.

Load capacity: what the manufacturer states, and for which model

• Up to 158 kg (350 lbs) per unit. Lascaux states this figure for the 4" Oz Clip (large size) only.
• Lascaux publishes no test conditions for that value: no standard, no method, no safety factor.
• For the small 2" model, Lascaux states no load capacity at all. The figure for the 4" model cannot be applied to it.

Limits of use: the anchor is what sets the limit

• The 158 kg figure belongs to the clip, not to the installation. The real limit of an installation is set by the weakest link: the screw, the wood of the frame or stretcher, the wire or chain, and the wall anchor. Size the installation by that link, not by the fitting.
• Lascaux requires checking that the wood of the frame or stretcher is solid at the point of attachment and that the length of the screws used is appropriate for the weight of the painting and frame. The technical sheet specifies 8 gauge self-tapping Philips head screws.
• If the frame and painting are heavy, Lascaux indicates adding an extra Oz Clip holding device in the middle of the side member of the frame to spread the load.
• Calculating the wall anchor is not covered by the manufacturer documentation and is the responsibility of whoever carries out the installation.
• The version without a loop is for transport only: the manufacturer does not intend it for hanging.
• Lascaux states that it is up to the user to test the suitability of the product for their substrate and their specific conditions of use.
