MIR Pure Pigments are powdered pigments selected for their high quality and stability for use in Fine Arts. They can be used mixed with Acrylic Medium, Oil Medium, or any other binding vehicle, depending on the desired use and properties. Available in 150 ml glass jars, in 36 colors.

Why choose MIR Pure Pigments?

  • Pure pigments of Spanish manufacture, selected for their quality and stability.
  • Each color identified by its Color Index and its lightfastness rating, for professional work.
  • Compatible with any binder: acrylic medium, oil medium, tempera, gum arabic, or reversible resins.
  • Intermixable to create custom shades.
  • 150 ml wide-mouth glass jar.

Uses and applications

  • Artistic painting: formulation of oil, acrylic, watercolor, or tempera by grinding the pigment with the chosen binder on a glass plate.
  • Chromatic reintegration in conservation-restoration: preparation of reversible retouching colors by adjusting the pigment with binders such as Aquazol, Paraloid B-72, or gum arabic, to match the original tone.
  • Polychromy and gilding: retouching and reintegration of polychromies and grounds.
  • Creation of custom shades by combining pigments.

How to use

The best way to use them is to initially mix the pigment with small amounts of the chosen medium in a muller or with a spatula on a glass plate until a completely wet paste is obtained, work it by applying pressure, and finally gradually incorporate the chosen medium until the desired consistency is achieved. Pigments can be mixed with each other.

Safety

Powder product: handle with a mask (FFP2/FFP3) avoiding inhalation. Some colors (cadmiums, cobalt) contain pigments with hazard classification; consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for the corresponding color. Bitume has low lightfastness and is not recommended for reintegration in conservation-restoration.
